Recently, a smart production line for high-speed wire rods and bar products—developed independently by a leading domestic metallurgical equipment manufacturer—has completed commissioning and officially begun operation at Shijiang Steel Company of Hebei Iron and Steel Group. This marks a significant breakthrough in the field of intelligent transformation of China’s metallurgical equipment in the special steel industry.
Recently, a smart production line for high-speed wire rods and bar products—developed independently by a leading domestic metallurgical equipment manufacturer—has completed commissioning and officially gone into operation at Shijiang Steel Company of Hebei Iron and Steel Group. This marks a significant breakthrough in the intelligent transformation of China’s metallurgical equipment sector, particularly in the special steel industry. The production line integrates 38 industrial robots and a digital twin system, enabling fully automated operations across the entire process—from unpacking and grinding to bundling and labeling. Compared to traditional production lines, this new system reduces labor input by 70% and boosts product quality to over 99.8%.
It is understood that this smart production line incorporates 109 innovative process technologies and is equipped with a self-developed intelligent control system. The system can collect production data in real time and dynamically optimize process parameters, thereby meeting the national “Work Plan for Steady Growth of the Iron and Steel Industry (2025–2026)” requirement to “promote the integration of artificial intelligence with the iron and steel industry.” According to the section chief of the finishing workshop for steel bars at Shijiazhuang Iron and Steel, after the new equipment was put into operation, the annual production capacity of each production line increased by 30%, and the cost of producing per ton of steel decreased by 120 yuan, helping the company successfully be selected as an excellent-level smart factory in 2024. Currently, the company’s smart production lines have been deployed across 12 key steel plants nationwide, and its market share consistently ranks among the top in the industry.
